How can you make your own furniture

Wood from a cargo ship that hit stormy water earlier on in the week has been washed on the shores of Kent. Thousands of tonnes of the sawn timber started to come ashore throughout Wednesday night and Thursday morning. Much to the amazement of the people who lived there, they woke up only to see scattered remains of timber that people are more than welcome to steal and make their own classic bedroom furniture.
The work force which are responsible for clearing the mess were absolutely gob-smacked with what to do with all of the wood and were told to wait for further instructions.Despite the extreme conditions and biting winds, people braved the weather to get a look at the very bizarre scenes. Even my old man had told me that we should take a trip over to Kent and get some wood for making our own furniture.
The timber fell from the Russian registered vessel the Sinegorsk in the Chanel on Monday, 14 miles off of New Haven, Sussex. Around 1,500 tonnes are thought to have gone overboard into the sea while it was sailing from Alexandra in Egypt from Oskarshamn in Sweden. The cargo apparently still belongs to the original owner and Kent Police have warned that any attempts to remove any of what has been washed up to be treated as theft. Although they have stated the stipulations people have still gone down to the seaside and taken various bits of wood. Normally, people go down to the seaside at night and steal all the wood that is laying about. Though, now the UK Police have been called to keep an eye on all of wood and protect it from being stolen.
This is the second time that wood has washed up on the shores of a Sussex beach. At a very similar time last year, Worthing was subject to the same treatment as a cargo ship spilled out a load of wood that people took.

Great way to make your own furniture

How do you know that you are buying good quality furniture

How do you know when you buy good quality wood furniture? It is not really that difficult and you can learn to judge the quality by looking at the finish plus how the furniture is constructed.
The sort of wood used has a great bearing on how long your furniture will last. It can be made of hardwood, softwood, or even engineered wood.
Usually good quality furniture is made out of hardwood coming from deciduous trees such as oak, maples, mahogany, teak, walnut, cherry and birch. The wood will have been air dried and then kiln dried to make sure all the excess moisture is removed.
Coniferous trees such as pine, firs, redwood and cedar produce soft wood. It is however possible to find good quality furniture in these woods too, but these woods are definitely more prone to scratches and dents.
Modern furniture is very rarely built of all wood.Plywood and engineered wood is used extensively mainly because it provides strength and also helps prevent splitting or warping. It can make robust, long lasting and highly attractive furniture when used with high quality veneers.
The way in which a piece is made can contribute greatly to its beauty, functionality and also how long it will last. The joinery and sturdiness of a piece of furniture will often tell you a great deal about its quality.
Tenon and Mortise, also dovetails are two of the oldest methods of putting together furniture and also making the strongest and best looking joints. Good joints may also have dowels or screws, but will never use staples. Any glue used should not be seen outside the joint.
Corner blocks are very often added for the strength and stability of the furniture. These should not be seen from the outside, but bolt together both sides of the interior corners.
A good quality office desk or chest of drawers will have dust panels or maybe thin sheets of wood between the drawers in the body of the chest or desk. This not only makes them structurally stronger but keeps dust apart from clothing or papers.
Back panels that face the wall are generally attached with screws in order to help ensure stability. Backs and unexposed parts should be smooth sanded and fitted together really well. This is a very important feature as only well made furniture will have these details.
Drawers should fit well and glide in and out of the cabinet. They must also have stops to stop the drawer from being pulled out too far. Glides in office furniture such as desks, filing cabinets and computer desks are very important to the functionality of the piece.
Sanding is the first step in the very important finishing process, and a good piece will be so smooth so that when you run your hand over it there should be no rough patches. Sanding across the wood grain also produces very unattractive results like dark lines across the surface. Wood not sanded properly will not take the stain evenly.
A good stain will enhance the beauty of wood and adds colour to it. High quality staining should be very even, without any dark spots. The sides and of course the ends should be of the same shade.
Finishes range from high gloss to matte. A good high quality finish is satin smooth and completely free of rough spots etc. Look for depth and richness in the finish, which will come from several coats of finish with sanding between each coat. High quality pieces are also finished on the back and even on the underside as well to reduce the chances of swelling or shrinking.
I good quality piece of furniture, whether it be for office furniture or a special item of furniture your home will most definitely turn out to be an investment and will certainly outlive much of the mass produced furniture that it manufactured today.

Port Wine

How much do you know about Port Wine?

You must have heard the name of 'Port Wine' off and on as a special type of wine. Why do we call it "port" wine, what type of wine is it and what is it all about?

Demystifying The Port Wine

The history of this wondrous wine can be traced to the Douro Valley wineries in Portugal. It is commonly served with dessert because of its sweetish qualities. You will find this wine richer, heavier and more sweeter than other wines. There are many variations of this wine, but two tower above the others, i.e. the oxidative aged and the reductive aged port wines.

There are five grape varieties that go into the making of the port wine and these are, the Tinta Roza, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Fanacesas, Tinot Cao, and Tina Barroca all of which are grapes that grow in the Douro Valley (Portugal).

The port wine which has been matured within the barrel with very limited exposure to oxygen is known as wine that is oxidative aged wine while the wine that has not been exposed to oxygen at all is known as reductive aged wine.

Some Great Port Wines

The name port wine encompasses a vast number of different types of wines of all color and taste. White Port is aged for about three years and it has a dry type flavor. Another port wine is aged for about seven years, this is called Colheita Port. Only one year's harvest grapes are used to make this wine, whereas other wines are made from grapes from different harvest years.

Among the more expensive one are the Tawny Port which is aged for a very long time – anything between ten and forty years and the Vintage Port which can be aged for about 50 years in the bottle itself; the Single Quinta Port is another wine that is aged for about 50 years as well. Port wines are in great demand all over the world, and correctly so.

The Crusted Port is another type of wine that needs mention. There are always sediments in the bottle as the wine is not filtered when it is bottled.

Bedroom Lighting Guidelines

Good bedroom lighting considers a careful mixture of practical and psychological factors. The average bedroom has so many different uses - relaxation, intimacy, study, morning preparation - that covering them all can be tricky.

We associate the bedroom with, among other things, sleep. That usually means no lights at all. This says that turning them off should not be a difficult thing to do. If you've been laying in bed reading it can be annnoying to turn them off, especially if you've gotten very tired. A main control switch within reach is a great thing here.

That nighttime reading can be a strain on the eyes, leading to fatigue and headaches. Banish the problem by installing lights in the proper places with the correct color.

Color? Does that mean you should get pink or blue light bulbs? No. Color, here, means 'color temperature'. Good reading lights are designed to emulate the range of wavelengths given off by natural sunlight, which is determined in part by the temperature of the sun's surface. Humans' eyes evolved to be sharpest under those conditions. Getting bulbs and lamps labeled as close to that will provide comfortable reading conditions.

But there are times, you just need a calming ambiance, not a useful light. That, too, should be taken into consideration when designing the bedroom lighting scheme.

To provide a cheery atmosphere that also provides needed light to tie shoes, connect a tricky clasp, brush hair or do any other common task, place lamps appropriately. Here again keep the light above the eyes, but let it shine directly down. In a home with modern furniture its also important to make sure the light style matches the modern seating selected. Raising it too high creates deep shadows that can hinder makeup application, make clothing color judgment more difficult and so on. Too low and it gets in your eyes, making those chores harder. Choose a pleasing middle level.

Select and place lamps about a foot higher than where your eyes are, and allow them to reflect light off surfaces. That provides the well-known indirect light effect that gives a subdued atmosphere. Whether for romance or just a quiet time away from distractions, that produces a calming effect that is just right in the bedroom.

Morning time is when most people, both kids and adults, will be up and preparing to meet the day. But, depending on the time of the day and season of the year, the sun doesn't always cooperate to provide the illumination needed. The orientation of the house plays a role, too, as do any curtains, exterior overhangs and so forth.

For overall illumination - for entering the room, vacuuming and a hundred other common tasks - a broad ambient lighting scheme is needed. A house with contemporary furniture can really benefit from a creative lighting style.  A central fixture with a strong lamp and a diffusing cover is often just the thing. For other bedroom designs supplemental lighting fixtures will be needed. There are often lots of corners, nooks and other areas of a bedroom that can have deep shadows.

For all of the above applications a dimmer switch, or at least multi-level bulbs, can allow for finer control of light and shadow. They can also allow for some small electricity savings if the light stays on for extended periods. A 300-watt halogen bulb can make for quite a high monthly electric bill. Dimming it when lower illumination is enough slices that down.

Consider all the ways you use your bedroom and light accordingly.

Sparkling Wines - The Wine Of Parties

Champagne & Sparkling Wine

A party is not a party without the presence of sparkling wines or champagne. Sparkling wine is basically the party drink of the alcohol world. Exciting occasions, like weddings, will have sparkling wine present. Champagne has a colorful history and how it is made is quite unique. This truly makes it worthy of the title "party wine."

It is said that sparkling wines were created by accident. Monks from Champagne, France were supposedly the accidental inventors of this drink. When their wines were stored in their cellars for some time, the wine turned bubbly. They thought they had spoiled the wine, but after drinking it they realized that they had created something great. Sparkling wine is created through temperature changes. When the wine cools down below fermentation temperature before all the alcohol has fermented and when it is heated up again, the resulting fermentation creates the bubbly appearance through a carbon dioxide reaction. Many wineries use the name champagne for their sparkling wine, but in actuality, wine that is truly champagne comes from a specific district of vineyards in France. Any other winery that uses the name champagne is stealing the name from the true foreign wineries.

The process of making sparkling wine has stayed pretty much the same throughout the years. The process has become modernized, but for the most part retains the spirit of the old ways. The first step in making champagne and sparkling wines is to pick the grapes over a period of time so that every grape is at its ripest. Sometimes, different grapes from different vineyards are used to retain the best qualities of each variety. The grapes are then pressed and stored, usually in stainless steel barrels to ferment. This is done over a period of at least three weeks, until all the sugar is turned into alcohol. The wine is then separated from the bits that sunk to the bottom of the barrels and is transferred to other barrels, sometimes wood, to ferment longer or is mixed in with older wines to retain a particular flavor. For the second fermentation, extra sugar and yeast is put in with the wine to make the bubbly texture. And that is how sparkling wine is made! There are many different kinds of sparking wines and they are all made a little differently, but the basic process is the same.

So that is a brief overview of how sparkling wines were created and how they are made. There are so many different kinds of sparkling wine, that it would be impossible to name them all in one article. Visit a wine club or indulge in some books for more information. Just remember, a sparkling wine is not true champagne unless it comes from Champagne, France.

Imagine sitting down to a great dinner with an first-class bottle of wine. That excellent bottle can be from the wines that you have made yourself. It does not take much to produce great wines if you know the right steps to take. Thankfully for us there are instructional literature that can train you with everything that you require to understand when it comes to creating wines. Additionally there are instruction booklets to growing your own grapes and knowing what the value of wines in reality are. All you require is a point in the appropriate direction and you have the opportunity to be enjoying all sorts of delicious wines. Choosing The Right Conservatory Furniture

There are a lot of issues in choosing ikea conservatory furniture such as room size, style, materials for the suite, number and type of pieces, accessories available to match etc below we discuss a few.

Whether you choose a more modern or traditional style of conservatory furniture, it is more than likely going to made from cane or wicker as this type of material is more resistant to the atmospheric changes seen in conservatories throughout the year. Conditions such as heat, strong sunlight and dampness are common occurrences in conservatories throughout the year and your conservatory furniture will have to withstand these changes if you are planning on leaving the furniture in your conservatory all year-round.

When looking at conservatory furniture make sure you have accurate measurements of the conservatory space and the furniture you wish to put in it. Plan the layout so you can see how your finished conservatory will look.

Conservatory furniture can be delivered either ready assembled or as a flat pack which you will have to assemble yourself. The quality and strength of the furniture will obviously have an impact on the price .

Qualities of cane conservatory furniture upholstery vary enormously. Look for UK manufactured cushions with fillings suitable for everyday use. Crumb foam for example is not normally suitable for everyday us and although cheaper, you will pay the price in the long term.

So, you have measured the space in your conservatory and chosen your main pieces of furniture. What about accessories? These can include cushions, curtains, lamps, magazine racks, etc. If you are keen on matching your accessories to the range of furniture you have chosen then you may find that you have to rethink about your chosen furniture if those cushions or curtains just don’t match.

Home Furnishings: A Few Easy Guides For Modernizing Your Dining Room

Any home owner that plans on adding new designs as part of their home furnishings decor must begin with a plan. Not coming up with a plan at the start will cause the home decorator to experience severe problems later. Determining the color scheme and picking the pieces of furniture are two key ingredients to proper planning.

If you only plan on changing your color scheme then you should pick a color that works with your current home furnishings decor. While you may discover the color you think you want right away, do not settle for that color alone. Bring home as many color swatches as you can to test out. To better see how the paint would look in your home, get a jar or two of sample paint and actually paint small sections. You'll want to see how the paint performs under different lighting scenarios, thus you should leave the paint on the wall for more than one day so you can watch it under different sets of lighting.

You should be sensible about picking your home furnishings decor. The best way to pick your items is to buy unfinished oak furniture that you know you will need to use in the room. The cozy function of family rooms would dictate a different oak furniture pattern than a formal dining room. Measurements and diagrams showing the exact location of windows and doors in the room are essential before shopping for furniture. When choosing furniture, make sure your design plan and measurements have allowed room for the floor and wall decorations.

Where exactly to begin can become a problem for many new home decorating projects. Deciding upon a theme and exact home decor can be an arduous task. Any decorating plan you have should include a set of goals that you want to accomplish. To prevent spending more money than you have, you should come up with a budget. This is a good place to start since it will allow you to get only the items that fit your budget.

Many people turn to the internet for new ideas on customizing unfinished oak furniture and to find tips on how to save money. Everyone likes to save money when they can and by going with an online merchant, you can do this more easily than shopping in a store. The internet is the greatest tool in expanding your buying options for a certain piece or a specified look.

Valuing Red Wines

Types of Red Wine : Zinfandel Wine Facts

While the average person may assume that all red wines are the same, the differences actually extend far beyond the label on the bottle. With over 50 main varieties of reds available, the colors can range from light red and ruby red to deep purple. There are even some varieties that are almost black in color. Of course, the flavors are as varied as the hues and can include fruity flavors or flavors that have a hint of tobacco. For the non-expert, the best way to develop an appreciation for red wine is to learn more about it.

The color and flavor of red wines is a combination of the wine making process and the variety of grapes used. Grapes used to make reds range from deep red to purple to blue and the skins are left on during fermentation. The skins contribute to the varieties of color and, along with the grape seed, determine the amount of tannins in the finished product. The longer the skins are left in contact with the fermenting grapes, the deeper the color and the higher the tannin content. Reds with the highest tannin content are considered full-bodied, like Cabernet, while lower tannin content gives medium-bodied Merlot or light-bodied Beaujolais. The fruity reds, which are named because of their flavor not because there is any sweetness, have the lowest tannin content of all the reds.

Fermentation in the skin does more for red wines than simply creating color. The grape skin contains flavenoids, which are well-known for their antioxidant properties, and it is passed on from skins to liquid during fermentation. As a result, the fuller the body of the wine, the amount of flavenoids will be much higher. Four ounces of a full-bodied red each day helps lower bad cholesterol, raise good cholesterol and reduce clotting. The flavenoids are also thought to inhibit the growth of certain cancer cells, as well as helping nerve cell formation, which can help prevent the onset of Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases.

The difference between types of red wines extends beyond what is written on the label. The differences, such as subtle variations in color, flavor and aroma, have been perfected by wine makers to make each red as different from another as the reds are from the whites. Those subtle differences begin with the grapes, but they are perfected in the winery. Fully appreciating the differences begins with learning and understanding more about them.

There are quite a number of of great wines on the market these days. You can find anything from a White Zinfandel to a beautiful red. However why buy wine when you can make great wines by yourself? There are great deal of resources to turn to in terms of making wines. All you need is the right type of book and instructions and you can produce any wines that you want. You will also need to know which supplies that you need to have if you are going to attempt this task. It is simpler than you believe it will be. Discovering And Learning About Marthas Vineyard

Tour of Martha's Vineyard

Approximately 7 miles south of Cape Cod on the Massachusetts coast sits an island called Marthas Vineyard. Approximately 100 square miles, the island is the largest island in the New England area. The Vineyard is part of the state of Massachusetts and was originally named for the vast grape growing areas on the island in the 1500s. The island has six primary communities, the most prominent of which is Vineyard Haven.

The Vineyard is one of New England's most popular tourist attractions, offering miles of beautiful cycling, running and walking trails. The roads in West Tusbury and Chilmark and the hiking trails found in West Chop Woods are the most widely used and offer scenic views. In the village of Menemsha, the fishing is wonderful. Deep-sea cruises and many different water sports can be found just about anywhere on the island. The residents of the Vineyard have dedicated a large area of the island to wildlife conservation. Visits to wildlife refuges and sanctuaries are very popular with those visiting the island. In the warm months of the year, tourists never fail to flock to the gorgeous sandy beaches. In addition to visiting the popular wineries, visitors can go to the Aquinnah Cliffs which offer wonderful views of sunrises and sunsets, the Aquinnah Lighthouse, the Eastchop Lighthouse and the Flying Horses Carousel, which has been in operation since 1876.

The most popular places to stay on Marthas Vineyard are in the towns of Oaks Bluff and Vineyard Haven. These are also the two towns that most of the ferries servicing the island dock at. Oaks Bluff is very well-known for its entertainment and night life, and Vineyard Haven for its shopping. Bed and Breakfasts can be found in the old sea captains homes in Edgartown. Accommodations can also be found in Menemsha, Chilmark and West Tisbury on the upper end of the island. It is usually necessary to book reservations well ahead of visiting because of its popularity as a tourist attraction.

How Food Is Complimented Through Wine

Food and Wine Pairing Tips

If you are one of the thousands of people who don't know a lot about wine, then this article is for you. Here, you will learn a little something about food wine and what wines should be pared with what foods. It is impossible to learn everything at once, but this will steer you in the right direction. You no longer have to belong to the uninformed masses.

The old rule that white wine is best with white meats and that red wine is best with red meats still stands today. Although things are a little more complicated now, it is still a good beginning rule. Another rule to follow in most cases for food wine is that each taste should be counteractive. What this means is that each taste of food or wine should completely mask the taste of the other. Food wines are supposed to enhance the food's taste by acting as a palate cleanser, making each bite of food taste as good as the first. And of course, it is vice versa for the wine flavor. If you can taste the flavor of the wine or food over the other item, then you probably are working with a bad match. It is harder to match food and wine now because so many different flavors of food get worked into a single dish. The best rule for these cases is that the body of the wine should match the food. Heavier foods get heavier wines and vice versa.

The main determination for food wine combinations is the balance of sweetness, acidity and bitterness of both the food and wine. It is pretty easy to figure out what wine should go with what foods by considering the wine and food characteristics. If a sweet food is being served, pair it with a sweeter wine. For bitter foods, a more bitter wine is in order. The best way to determine the acidity of a food is to determine if it would go better with more acid added. For example, adding lemon to a fish means that a more acidic wine should be consumed. Some common white wines that are acidic are: Rieslings, most sparkling wines and white Bordeauxs. Acidic red wines include: Gamays, Pinot Noirs and Sangioveses. Sweet white wines include: White Zinfandels, other forms of Rieslings and Chenin Blancs. Sweet red wines can include: Port and Lambrusco. There are not many bitter white wines, but there are some bitter red wines. These can include, red Zinfandels, Merlots and Cabernet Sauvignons.

Putting Your Money Into Fine Wines

Wine Investing

Investments come in many different forms, such as stocks and bonds, race horses, baseball cards and many others. When looking to start an investment in something, it is always best to think slightly out of the box. If you want to invest in something that will be fun and laid back, then consider investing in fine wines. The best wines command high prices, especially if they have aged over a number of years. This article will teach you how to invest in wine efficiently.

Before you start purchasing any ol' bottle of wine you will want to learn everything you can about wine. There are a few ways you can go about this. You can choose to do it on your own. Gather up some books and learn the basics on how vintage wines are made, everything from genetics of the vine to the climate. All of this will be important when choosing your fine wines. You can also employ the expertise of someone called a sommelier, which is a person who purchases high-end wines for restaurants and clubs. Having a sommelier at your beck and call can be handy after you have begun investing as well.

Once you have retained all of the knowledge you feel you will need to be successful in investing in fine wines, you can then move on. You can choose to travel to different wineries or simply investigate them by phone or online. By doing this you will learn all about their reputations as well as their quality of vintage wine. This should help you choose which area you will be collecting from and investing in. It is best to stick with one area so that you can become an expert. Consider investing in wine from outside the country, such as French wines. Of course you won't be traveling to France, or will you?

Without any doubt, you will develop knowledge of fine wines, but there are still a few things you should be cautious of. Just because a wine is expensive does not mean it is of good quality. It might mean it is a fad at the moment. Also, be aware that a lot of wines are made today with the main purpose of being consumed, and this means that they do not hold a shelf life of over a few years. With a mind full of knowledge and respect for wine, you shouldn't have any trouble at all investing in the best of the best!

Various wines are valued at unique values so it is important to know your wines before you begin making large purchases for your wine collection. There are other ways to have great wines at incredible prices. You have the ability to make your own wines directly from your very own grapes that you grow in your own garden or vineyard. It is not difficult once you aquire the right tools in addition to the appropriate information. At your next social occasion you can supply the wines and everyone will be pleasantly surprised that you accomplished it all yourself instead of purchasing them. Learning And Enjoying Dessert Wines

Types of Dessert Wines : Port Dessert Wines

Throughout the centuries, there has been a seemingly natural connection between food and wine. Many culinary experts claim that some foods are simply better when paired with the right wine. Typically, the pairings do not follow a hard, strict rule, with most people preferring to rely on their individual tastes. In the case of dessert wines, however, they can be appreciated alone, but they are best when paired with fruit or bakery sweets. Of course, knowing how to recognize such a wine is the first step to truly appreciating it.

Although many vintners will disagree, the creation of a fine vintage does not necessarily begin in the vineyard. Granted, there are a few varieties that are known for being especially sweet, but many of them require additional flavorings to stave off blandness. The sweetness of grapes can even be enhanced by harvesting them later or by exposing them to more sunlight, both of which can be difficult to control. As a result, many dessert wines are not a result of the grape growing process, but of the amount of sugar added before or after fermentation. In Germany, for example, sugar is increased by adding grape juice after fermentation, which has the side effect of lowering the alcohol content. Other techniques for increasing sweetness include using grapes that have a specific type of mold on them, freezing out some of the water, or drying the grapes before fermentation.

Wines and spirits are classified according to the variety of grapes included, alcohol content, color and flavor, and the classifications vary. In the UK, for example, dessert wines are any sweet wine that is consumed with a meal, while the United States applies that name to any wine that has more than 14% alcohol. Although the definition may vary by country and vineyard, everyone agrees that they are the sweetest of all wines. Typically, they are not fortified and they have a higher sugar and alcohol content than other types of wines.

Wine selection and food pairings can be something of a controversial process. Some experts claim that certain combinations should always be served together, while others insist that selection and pairing should be based on the individual palate. Both sides seem to agree, however, that dessert wines should be served after the meal, whether alone or with an actual dessert. They also agree, in this case, that selection and pairing with a dessert involves actually tasting the wine to figure out what suits your individual tastes.

There are a lot of great wines on the market these days. You can find anything from a White Zinfandel to an exquisite red. But why buy wine when you can create outstanding wines by yourself? There are plenty of resources to turn to in terms of making wines. All you need is the right type of book and instructions and you can create any type of wines that you wish. You will also need to understand which supplies that you need to have if you are going to undertake this task. It is easier than you think it will be. Suggestions For Combining Food And Wine

There are two primary ways of combining food and wine. First, it can be done by drinking and enjoying wine with the food we eat. And second wine can become a component in the preparation of a meal. Of course, the second activity should always be followed by the first for maximum enjoyment. And you can always enjoy both activities at the same time to provide the ideal combination food and wine.

Enjoying Wine With Dinner

A good wine will aid digestion, enhance the flavor of the food and, in the case of red wine, assist in keeping your heart healthy. There are many differing theories as to which wines to combine with particular foods. However, my suggestion is that if it tastes right, it is right. While some gourmets may argue with this, there seems to be little downside in combining food and wine in this manner.

Cooking With Wine

French and Italian chefs are renowned for combining wine and food. Both cuisines make extensive use of both red and white wines in meal preparation from appetizers to sauces to desserts.

Combining food and wine in this way avoids any alcoholic taste in the food as heating the wine or other typically boils away the alcohol portion.

Another rule to consider when cooking with wine is never to cook with a wine that you don't want to drink. This will often mean opening a bottle of wine just for cooking but the flavor boost to your dinner is worth it. Do not be tempted to cook with that wine that has been sitting on the kitchen counter for the last week since it was opened. If you wouldn't drink it, don't try attempto to cook with it. Home Wine Making Is The Ideal Way To Fine A Taste You Like

Fruit Wine Making

Many people love to sample different types of wine, but sometimes, you just can not find one you really enjoy. Homemade fruit wine making is the one way to experiment with different fruits and juices to make a wine you like.

Once you have all the equipment and a recipe book, you can begin your venture to making the best wine you have ever tasted. Home wine making allows you to try different flavor juices or fruits. You will find there are many different types of wines that you can make with a home wine making venture.

You might want a citrus wine favor. If so, you can use oranges, apples, grapefruit or gooseberry. If you want something a little less citrus flavored, you might try bananas, cherry, pear, peach, strawberry or grapes. There are people who use dandelions and rhubarb as well as watermelon and ginger root to make wine.

So for a basic idea, you should prepare your wine with 22 pounds of pears, 16 pounds of strawberries, 14 pounds of pineapples, 15 pounds of peaches, 18 pounds of watermelon or 15 pounds of blackberries.  These are measures for yielding five gallons of wine. However, these are the simple instructions for wine making; in fact, there is no single accurate measure for the quantity of the fruit to be used in wine making process.

Once
this fermentation process is completed the clarification process begins. Filtering and fining are also usually done at this stage, filtering which can be done with everything from a course filter that catches only large solids to a sterile filter pad that wipes wine of all life. Fining on the other hand, occurs when substances are added to a wine to clarify them. Finally in the wine making process is the stage of aging and bottling. You can either bottle the wine
immediately, or further aging can be done in bottle, stainless steel or ceramic tanks.

You can really personalize this process and make it your own as long as you include the basics, and you will have a lot of fun and produce some fantastic wine that you can share with your family and friends. Wine making is a time honored tradition, one that has become incredibly popular in the world of today. If you have not tried making your own wine before then it is definitely something that you should try out sometime in the near future.

What is the Recommended Amount of Absinthe?

There is renewed interest in Absinthe, which is also known as the Greeny Fairy or La Fee Verte. Before preparing a drink, people want to know how to buy Absinthe, what type to buy, how to prepare it and what is the recommonded amount to use.

First be sure to buy a quality Absinthe which is rich in essential oils and that contains wormwood. There are Absinthe substitute and fake Absinthes on sale that contain southernwood or roman wormwood instead of common wormwood (artemisia absinthium). Make sure you buy a real Absinthe. For those who have a hard time finding good quality Absinthe then you can make your won Absinthe using essences from AbsintheKit.com.

Once you have got your Absinthe, you will need to learn The Ritual, or La Louche. the traditional French or Swiss method of preparing Absinthe and it uses one shot of Absinthe. The instructions are:-

To perform the Ritual, you will need a lump of sugar, a slotted Absinthe spoon, iced water, and Absinthe glass.

- Pour 25-50 ml of Absinthe into the glass.
- Rest the special Absinthe spoon on the rim of the glass and then place a cube of sugar in it.
- Slowly drip iced water over the sugar either by dripping from the tap of the fountain or by using a steady hand to pour from a carafe. Give the sugar a chance to dissolve and drip slowly through the shots of the spoon. You see a lovely "louche" effect as the water mixes into the alcohol. The Absinthe louches because the oils of the herbs are soluble in alcohol but not water and make the mixture cloudy or milky when water is added.
- Sit down and enjoy.

The Czech or Bohemian Method is very similar to the Ritual but is a modern way of preparing cheap Czech Absinthes. The Bohemian method is generally scorned by Absinthe followers.

Tips and instructions for using the Bohemian method:-

- Pour 25 to 50 ml of Absinthe into a glass then dip the sugar cube into it to soak the sugar.
- Place the Absinthe spoon on the rim of the glass and place the cube of sugar on the spoon.
- Set the sugar cube on fire for one minute to allow the sugar to caramelize and melt. The sugar will drip through the slots of the Absinthe spoon and into the Absinthe.
- Put the spoon into the glass while pouring the iced water into the Absinthe to put out flames and to cause the Absinthe to louche.
- Enjoy.

To really enjoy your Absinthe properly then you will want some Absinthiana - Absinthe glasses, spoons and perhaps even an Absinthe fountain to control the flow of the water. Replicas of antique glasses and spoons can be purchased from AbsintheKit.com.

What is the recommended amount of Absinthe to use when preparing an Absinthe drink? Use approximately 45 ml or a shot glass full. You can search online for recipes to use Absinthe in cocktails.

Where to Buy Absinthe Online?

There are many websites selling Absinthe and Absinthekits that its hard to know where to buy Absinthe online, especially if you're new to Absinthe. Absintheliquor.com is probably the best as they also supply the same absinthe essence to the liquor industry from their industrial site distillery-yeast.com.

Absinthe, known as La Fee Verte, is a strong alcoholic beverage with an anise taste. Henri-Louise Pernod's original Absinthe was made with a wine alcohol base and herbs such as grande wormwood (Artemisia Absinthium), aniseed and fennel. Although Absinthe is distilled at very high proof and is very strong, it is served with iced water which dilutes it. It is twice as strong as other spirits such as vodka and whisky.

Absinthe contains the herb wormwood that gives the drink its bitter taste. In the early 1900s the drink was banned because wormwood contains thujone. It was believed that thujone was psychoactive and harmful to health. Studies and tests have now shown that Absinthe only contains trace amounts of thujone and is not harmful.

Absinthe is enjoyed by using a preparation method called The Ritual. A shot of Absinthe in a glass is diluted with water dripped over a cube of sugar on an Absinthe spoon. When the water mixes into the alcohol, it causes the drink to louche and become cloudy. Only Absinthe containing real herbs and oils will louche properly.

Where to Buy Absinthe online – real Absinthe

To enjoy Absinthe properly you need to order a quality Absinthe made by a reputable distillery. An Absinthe which has wormwood. Some websites will give details about alcohol by volume (or proof) and thujone content. A example is Absinth24.net says that Absinthe La Clandestine has an abv of 53% but has less than 30mg of thujone. Thedrinkshop.com, a UK based company gives very good product descriptions of the Absinthe available to order on their web shop and also has product reviews.

If you make your own you can ensure that you are using quality Absinthe. Remember that hoe distillation is illegal in many countries without a license and Absinthe just is not real without the distillation process. But, AbsintheKit. has real wormwood Absinthe essences. They have natural herbs which are the same essences that AbsintheKit sell to the Absinthe industry. They are already distilled so you only need to mix 20 ml of essence with 730 ml of vodka or Everclear. That is it, and it is very easy.

There are essences in 4 different varieties:-

Absinthe Classic Essence - Essence which produces a classic green Absinthe with thujone of 35 mg.

Absinthe White Essence - Is an essence used to make clear Absinthe reminiscent of Swiss La Bleue Absinthes. This essence makes an Absinthe with a 35mg thujone content.

Absinthe Orange Essence – Natural flavored with orange oil, makes a yellowy orange Absinthe with a thujone content of 35 mg.

Absinthe 55 Strong Essence - For a darker green Absinthe which a stronger wormwood flavor. The content of thujone will be 55mg.

The essences are available in 20 ml bottles. This can make one 750 ml bottle of Absinthe. The AbsintheKits contain a 280 ml bottle of essence, a plastic measure and artistic bottle labels.

It is important to know where to buy quality Absinthe online so that your get Absinthe that tastes right and that louches. Search for reputable companies selling award winning brands or make you own from essences.

Where To Find Home Brew Kits

Home Brew Video

Having the right home brews kits will insure success when making that first batch of your own home brewed beer. There are several different types of home brew kits available and each one has its own benefits.  Purchasing high quality ingredients for a great home brew can be expensive, so it is important to try and get the best price for the best ingredients available.

There are many online retailers that sell different types of home brewing equipment and many of these will have home brew supply sets available at a practical price.  Some of these internet stores get their equipment from physical stores that are making space for new merchandise while other stores carry the products of smaller manufacturers that are trying to make a name in the industry.  Purchasing home brew supply sets from online stores allows you to compare a number of different styles from the comfort of your own home and the items that you have chosen are shipped directly to your house using a major delivery companies.  You may even order custom home brew equipment from one of these companies to have equipment that fits your needs perfectly.

Many shops that focus exclusively on the sale of brewing equipment have opened in different areas across the nation.  These stores offer products online and have a wide selection of different home brew equipment and ingredients from a number of manufacturers. They are experts in the home brewing industry and know exactly what you will need.  These online stores often have the best prices on the ingredients that they carry and will often sell their ingredients in bulk.  It is sometimes difficult to find particular home brew ingredients as their products change on a regular basis depending on which ingredients are currently popular or in season.

If price for the home brew kits seem too good to be true or are much lower than those that can be found for any competitor, then the price is probably a lure to get the customer to release their personal information.  A consumer should always be careful about giving any of personal or payment information to a company on the internet.

There are a number of discount online retailers that offer brand name home brew ingredients available on the internet as well.  Choosing to purchase ingredients for a home brew from these retailers can be chancy because the ingredients may not be as expected and the retailer may make it difficult to return any items that you do not like.

You should only purchase home brew ingredients and equipment from an online store that has an excellent reputation and has an easy to understand return policy.

What Percentage is Absinthe?

Absinthe is a strong anise flavor liquor which is made by distilling alcohol with herbs such as wormwood, and fennel. We know the Absinthe it is strong and can get you drunk easily, but what percentage is Absinthe and what is its proof?

Let's look at the alcohol by volume levels of popular brands of Absinthe:-

La Fee XS Absinthe Francaise 68% abv or 136 proof
Doubs Mystique Carte D'Or 65% abv or 130 proof
La Clandestine Absinthe 53% abv (106 proof)
Jade Edouard 72% abv (144 proof)
Sebor is 55% alcohol by volume or 110 proof
Jade Nouvelle Orleans 68% alcohol by volume (136 proof)
Mari Mayans Collectors 70 is around 70% alcohol by volume or 140 proof
La Fee Parisian 68% alcohol by volume (136 proof)
Lucid Absinthe which is 62% abv is 124 proof
Jade Verte Suisse 65% abv (130 proof)
Pernod Absinthe is 68% abv or 136 proof
Kuber 53 is 53% alcohol by volume (106 proof)
Pere Kermanns 60% abv (120 proof)
Jade PF 1901 68% alcohol by volume is 136 proof
La Fee XS Absinthe Suisse 53% abv (106 proof)
Roquette 1797 75% alcohol by volume or 150 proof
La Fee Bohemian 70% abv which is 140 proof

Let's now compare Absinthe to other beverages:-

Whisky – Johnnie Walker Black Label Scotch 40% alcohol by volume (80 proof)
Absinthe can be up to 75% alcohol by volume or 150 proof
Table Wine which is 9-12% alcohol by volume is 18-24 proof
Beer is about 4 or 5% alcohol by volume (8-10 proof)

Now, the information on the alcohol.com website has worked out that if you have one shot of 190 proof Everclear is equivalent to drinking 2.8five beers and about 3 brandies. With this information we can establish that one shot of Absinthe is equivalent to 2.2five cans of beer. So, the twenty-two shots of Absinthe is equivalent to forty-nine.five cans of beer!

As you can see, Absinthe is stronger than types of fermented drinks such as wine and beer and even stronger than whisky. Care needs to be used when consuming Absinthe, not because it will make us have hallucinations, or any other psychedelic effects, but because it is so strong and will intoxicate quickly. We need to take particular care when mixing Absinthe with other alcoholic drinks in cocktails.

Care needs to always be taken when your are making your own Absinthe drink. If you buy an Absinthe kit like Green Devil then you are simply steeping herbs in a neutral alcohol such as Everclear or vodka. Everclear has an abv of 95% and a proof of 190 so it is much stronger than commercial Absinthe. When you purchase the Absinthekit there are essences from Absinthe.com also have to be mixed with a neutral alcohol such as Everclear or vodka. The finished Absinthe will be whatever the proof or abv of the neutral alcohol you have used.

What % is in Absinthe? For commercial Absinthe look on the bottle label or if you order online, look at the product details for alcohol by volume or proof. If you are making your own Absinthe from a kit, you need to look at the bottle of Everclear or vodka that you are using.

Choosing the Best Wine for Each Occasion

There are mainly no harsh and fast regulations when picking the best wine for every event - for the most part when you think that individuals are limited to specific wines contingent on their own liking and taste. Here are a few ‘soft’ guidelines to help you choose the right wine for the right occasion. This will give you a good idea on how to complement an occasion – and certain dishes – with the right kind of wine.

1. White Wines – white wines, being lighter and drier than red wines are best served during the earlier part of the evening or before the main course. Chardonnay, having wide appeal among most wine connoisseurs, is also perfect for serving along with rich tasting courses, especially those that have creamy sauces. Sauvignon Blanc, while not as dry as Chardonnay, still makes excellent company with salads, shrimp, and fish due to its fruity nature.

White wines are perfect for starting off an evening on the right foot, and are also wonderful for toasts and special occasions. Champagne is a regular fixture at weddings and is indispensable at such occasions.

2. Red Wines – red wines are great for main courses and are typically served during the latter part of any occasion. Their full bodied nature makes them a great complement to a warm feast. If you are looking for the wine that is most certain to please the most people, go for Merlot. It has a just mixture of body and lightness that makes it the perfect option for most dishes. It particularly does well with poultry, pork and lamb.

The scintillating aroma of plum, vanilla and blackberry make Pinot Noir an intriguing proposition during special occasions. It is not as heralded as Merlot or Cabernet, so many people may not recognize its unique blend. It goes well with creamy sauces.

For spicy foods, Shiraz is a fiery complement. It has a peppery taste that will greatly enhance the flavor in barbeques, roasts, and chili or spicy dishes.

For a hearty, full taste, look no further than Chianti. Chianti is the best wine to accompany tomato dishes and poultry. It is wonderfully versatile in having varied range in price and quality.

During some occasions you may want to prepare servings of both red and white wine, and have your guests sample which they would have for the rest of the evening. Most people choose their drinks early on and keep them until the end of the reception.

Last but not least, it is best to find the right wine and its products in the right winery.
